The Cal T/4 sailboat in her marina slip at sunrise

Captain and vessel

Trip and the
twenty-four-foot plan.

One captain. One Cal T/4. One extremely specific assignment.

Meet Captain Trip

He is not part of your date.

Trip is responsible for the boat, the route, the weather call, the safety briefing, and the return to civilization. He is not an audience, photographer, collaborator, relationship counselor, or approving government official.

His professional contribution is competence followed by tactful distance. He will explain the vessel, establish the operating boundaries, take the boat offshore, and develop a sudden, sustained interest in the horizon.

Trip's word is finalWeather, navigation, vessel, and safety decisions.

Trip respects privacyWithin the real operating limits of a small sailboat.

Trip may end the voyageIf conduct, conditions, or common sense require it.

The Cal T/4

A real racing design with an improbable second career.

The Cal T/4 is a 24-foot Quarter Ton design by Bill Lapworth, built by Jensen Marine. It was introduced as a fast, responsive racer with a surprisingly complete interior. It is now being asked to support a new category of adult decision-making.
